Cayo Guillermo is a world-class destination for kitesurfing (kiteboarding) especially in the sector of Playa El Paso. You can find in these keys many large shallow areas with sandy bottom and tranquil waters, and constant wind (11-15 knots or more). They have the perfect conditions for beginners and more experience kiteboarders... and with LOTS of room to ride!

Kite zones and fees

Note that kiteboarding in the hotels’ zone is allowed only in designated areas. Each kitesurfer must pay 25 USD per stay to use the kite zones, locally called “Polygono” (polygon), this fee includes one rescue and is good for every kite zones in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. You receive a Marlin sticker as a proof of payment. Nautica Marlin is a government-owned organization who manage all-kinds of water sports and nautical excursions in Cuba. The purpose of this fee is to regulate kitesurfing and organize better infrastructures to ensure safety (buoys, watercrafts, etc.). For the clients who are registered in an official kitesurfing school, this fee is usually included in their package.

Kitesurfing lessons, information & prices

Bus transfer to/from your hotel :
If you booked a vacation package that include transfers, please note that each passenger traveling with large sport equipment (kitesurfing, bicycle, sailboard, kayak, etc.) has now to pay an additional fee for the transfers between the airport and the hotel. Your travel agent can reserve in advance and add this fee to your booking. Check also with your airline for extra fee (if any) to check-in sporting equipement.

As far as we know, there are currently five kite centers/schools in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. If you know of any other, or if any of the following have ceased to operate, please let us know, we’ll gladly update this page.
